These Exclusive Air Jordans Were Made for the UCLA Bruins – And I’m Kinda Jealous
I still remember my first pair of Air Jordans. I saved up for months working at my uncle’s hardware store during college, counting every penny until I could finally walk into that store and point confidently at the glass case. “Those ones.” The memory of that new sneaker smell when I opened the box still hits me sometimes when I’m browsing sneaker sites late at night (probably too often, if my wife’s eye-rolling is any indication).
That’s why when I spotted these new Air Jordan 4 “UCLA Bruins” PEs, I literally spilled my coffee all over my keyboard. Sorry, laptop. It was worth it.
UCLA Gets the Royal Treatment
Let’s talk about these beauties. Jordan Brand has crafted something special for the UCLA Bruins athletes and staff – an exclusive Air Jordan 4 that screams luxury while bleeding blue and gold school pride. And when I say exclusive, I mean EXCLUSIVE. Like, you-can’t-buy-these-anywhere exclusive. The kind of exclusive that makes sneakerheads (hi, it’s me) stay up at night.
The upper is wrapped in this gorgeous light blue suede that looks soft enough to pet. I’m getting strong “First Class” PE vibes, but with a UCLA twist that takes them to another level. The textured leather overlays add some serious dimension, and they’ve contrasted it all with these bold gold accents that pop like fireworks against the blue backdrop.
Listen, I’ve seen a lot of PEs in my decade-plus covering sneakers, but these might be the prettiest school exclusives I’ve laid eyes on this year.
The Details Are Insane
You know how they say the devil’s in the details? Well, whoever designed these kicks definitely understood the assignment. The gold Jumpman logo stands out like a beacon, but the real showstopper is that diamond-encrusted basketball on the heel. Yeah, you read that right. DIAMOND. ENCRUSTED.
Last week I was excited about finding matching socks for my regular Jordans, and meanwhile UCLA athletes are walking around with actual diamonds on their sneakers. The sneaker game really isn’t fair sometimes.
They’ve also included a custom UCLA-branded hangtag, which is a nice touch that ties everything together. It’s like the cherry on top of an already delicious sneaker sundae.
Why These Aren’t Coming to Stores
Here’s the heartbreaker – these stunning Air Jordan 4s aren’t going to hit retail. Not now, not ever. They’re strictly for UCLA athletes and staff members.
I get it. The whole point of Player Exclusives is that they’re, well, exclusive. These special editions are meant to boost team morale and give athletes something unique to flex. I’ve interviewed enough college athletes over the years to know how much they treasure their team-exclusive gear.
But man, doesn’t stop me from wishing I could add these to my collection. I’ve got a spot on my shelf that would be perfect, right between my Jordan 11s and that pair of 5s my dog partially chewed when they were brand new. (Still not over that one, Baxter.)
The UCLA Connection
The blue and gold color scheme is obviously a nod to UCLA’s iconic colors. I actually visited the campus once for a sneaker convention back in 2018, and the school pride there is no joke. The colors are everywhere – buildings, shirts, hats, you name it.
Jordan Brand clearly wanted to capture that spirit, and they nailed it. These sneakers don’t just represent the school; they embody it. I can already picture these walking across campus and turning heads with every step.
For the Collectors
If you’re a serious collector, these are the kind of grails that you might spend years tracking down. Maybe an ex-player will sell their pair someday, or perhaps they’ll pop up at a high-end auction. When they do, expect the price tag to be astronomical.
I’ve seen rare PEs go for thousands – sometimes tens of thousands – on the resale market. These, with their premium materials and that flashy diamond detail, would likely command a similar price.
But hey, a sneakerhead can dream, right? Maybe I’ll befriend a UCLA basketball player. Or get hired as a coach. Or janitor. I’m not picky at this point.
Until then, I’ll just have to admire these from afar like the rest of you. And maybe stop spilling coffee on my electronics when new sneakers drop.
Anyone else feeling the UCLA envy, or is it just me?
