# KD4 “Easter” is Coming Back and I’m Already Clearing Shelf Space
I still remember the day I stood in line outside my local Foot Locker back in 2012, clutching my coffee while the morning chill bit through my hoodie. I’d been saving up for weeks to grab the Nike KD 4 “Easter” colorway – those mint green beauties that seemed to capture everything fresh about spring in sneaker form. Fast forward 13 years (good grief, where does the time go?), and I’m thrilled to share that one of my all-time favorite KD releases is making a comeback.
Nike just announced that the KD 4 “Easter” will return on April 18, 2025, and honestly, I’m already planning my camping chair and snack situation for release day.
A Trip Down Memory Lane
For those who weren’t obsessively checking sneaker blogs every day back in 2012 (unlike yours truly), the KD 4 was Kevin Durant’s fourth signature shoe with Nike. It dropped during what I like to call the “golden era” of KD kicks – when they were still reasonably priced and packed with tech that didn’t require taking out a small loan.
The “Easter” edition featured this gorgeous Mint Candy base color with White and New Green accents. I remember when I first pulled them out of the box, they literally smelled like fresh sneakers and possibility. That minty green colorway popped so hard it practically screamed “SPRING IS HERE!” without being tacky.
Truth be told, I wore mine until they practically fell apart. The right shoe developed this weird squeak whenever I played ball in them, but I refused to retire them until the sole started separating during an embarrassingly competitive pickup game with some teenagers who were definitely not impressed by my “vintage” kicks.
What Made the KD 4 So Special?
The KD 4 had this perfect balance that later models sometimes missed. They weren’t too bulky or too minimal. The Hyperfuse construction made them super breathable but still durable enough to handle outdoor courts (which, let’s be honest, is where most of us actually play). Plus, the Zoom Air cushioning hit that sweet spot where it was responsive without feeling like you were walking on marshmallows.
And that midfoot strap? Game changer. Mine would sometimes come undone during games, which was annoying as heck, but when it was secured properly, my foot felt locked in like it was part of the shoe.
The “Easter” version took all this goodness and added these subtle purple accents on the strap and KD branding that somehow made the whole package pop. They weren’t covered in bunny rabbits or egg patterns (thank goodness), but they absolutely captured that Easter vibe through the colorway alone.
Worth the Wait?
At $130, the 2025 retro will cost exactly the same as the original did in 2012. When’s the last time ANYTHING stayed the same price over 13 years? I’m looking at you, $7 coffee drinks that used to cost $3.
I’ve gone through probably 20+ basketball shoes since my original KD 4 Easters bit the dust, and honestly, none have felt quite the same. There’s something about that era of basketball shoes that hit different – before everything became ultra-knit, super-lightweight, and designed to look good on Instagram first and perform on court second.
My wife has already given me “the look” when I mentioned blocking off release day on our shared calendar. She remembers the 2018 incident when I missed our friend’s baby shower because I was stuck in line for the Lebron 15 “Fruity Pebbles” release. In my defense, I did bring the baby a tiny pair of Nikes as a peace offering. They were Cortez, not Lebrons, but it’s the thought that counts, right?
The Countdown Begins
April 18, 2025 might seem far away, but for sneakerheads like me, it’s basically tomorrow. I’ve already started planning which pair of basketball shoes I’ll retire to make room on my increasingly crowded shelf (sorry, PG 5s, you’ve had a good run).
Will the 2025 version live up to my rose-colored memories of the original? Probably not – nothing ever does. But that won’t stop me from setting multiple alarms, bookmarking every possible retailer, and probably annoying everyone in my life by talking about nothing else as release day approaches.
If you’re planning to grab a pair too, may the sneaker gods be ever in your favor. And if you see a slightly graying guy in his 40s looking way too excited in the SNKRS app line, that’s probably me. Come say hi – we can compare notes on which KD model truly deserves the GOAT status while we nervously refresh our browsers together.
Until then, I’ll be breaking in the pair I plan to trade in and explaining to my kids why Daddy needs another pair of “basically the same green shoes” in his collection.
