CLOT x adidas Stan Smith Espadrilles: The Summer Kicks I Didn’t Know I Needed

I was scrolling through my Instagram feed last night, cup of lukewarm coffee in hand (I always forget to drink it while it’s hot), when I spotted something that made me do a genuine double-take. CLOT and adidas are dropping what might be the coolest summer footwear collab of 2025 – Stan Smith Espadrilles. Yeah, you read that right. Two of my favorite worlds colliding in the best possible way.

Now, I’ve been covering sneaker releases for over a decade, and I’ll admit I sometimes get a bit jaded. Another collab? Great. Another limited edition? Yawn. But this one actually got me excited, and I haven’t felt that tingly “I need these” feeling since I camped outside for the Travis Scott Jordans back in the day (only to spill coffee on them the first week I wore them – classic me).

What Makes These Special?

Edison Chen’s CLOT label has been pushing boundaries for years, but this collaboration feels particularly inspired. They’ve taken the iconic Stan Smith – a shoe that’s been in my rotation since college – and given it an espadrille makeover that screams “take me on your beach vacation.”

The pack comes in two colorways that couldn’t be more different, yet both somehow work perfectly. First up is the classic white leather with those signature green accents we all know and love. It’s like they took the OG Stan Smith, sent it on a Mediterranean holiday, and it came back with a tan and a new outlook on life.

The second version is where things get really interesting – a black suede with green details that feels more evening-appropriate. I can already picture wearing these to a beachside restaurant where I’ll inevitably get sand in them anyway.

The Details Make All the Difference

What’s really got me excited is how they’ve stripped back the traditional padding for a slimmer silhouette. As someone whose feet swell to embarrassing proportions in summer heat, this sleeker profile is a godsend.

The hand-stitched seams give them that authentic espadrille vibe, while the woven jute midsole is the kind of detail that sneakerheads and fashion folks alike will appreciate. I remember vacationing in Spain years ago and buying a pair of traditional espadrilles that fell apart after two weeks. Something tells me these adidas versions will hold up considerably better with that rubber outsole.

I spotted Chinese characters embroidered on the toe box too – a signature CLOT touch that adds just the right amount of streetwear edge. The co-branded insoles are another nice touch, though let’s be honest, no one’s going to see that part unless you’re the type to take your shoes off at dinner parties (I’ve been known to do this after a glass of wine or two – my friends hate it).

Why I’m Already Planning My Purchase

Summer footwear is always a challenge for me. I want something casual but not sloppy, breathable but still structured, and versatile enough to wear with shorts and jeans. These Stan Smith Espadrilles check all those boxes and then some.

Last summer, I wore my regular Stan Smiths to a beach wedding and nearly died of heat stroke. My feet were sweating so much I left damp footprints on the dance floor – not my proudest moment. These espadrille versions would have been the perfect solution.

The beauty of this collab is how it bridges different style worlds. They’re sneakers, but also not. They’re traditional espadrilles, but also not. They’re the footwear equivalent of a mullet – business in the front, party in the back – but in the best possible way.

When Can You Get Your Hands on Them?

The CLOT x adidas Stan Smith Espadrille Pack is slated for Summer 2025 release. I know, I know – that seems like forever away. But good things come to those who wait, right? At least that’s what I tell myself when I’m 47th in line for brunch on a Sunday morning.

No word on pricing yet, but I’d expect these to retail somewhere in the $120-150 range based on previous CLOT collaborations. And yes, I’ve already started setting aside my “special sneaker fund” money for these (much to my partner’s dismay – they think I already have too many white sneakers, which is objectively true but completely irrelevant).

Will these be an easy cop? Probably not. CLOT collaborations tend to sell out quickly, and the unique nature of these makes me think they’ll be even more sought after than usual. My advice? Set those alarms, follow both brands on social media for updates, and maybe start being extra nice to your friend who works at the local sneaker shop now. You know, just in case.

Summer 2025 can’t come soon enough. Until then, I’ll be here, imagining myself wearing these on a beach somewhere, drink in hand, not a care in the world. Or more realistically, wearing them to walk my dog around the block while pretending I’m on vacation.
