# Devin Booker Steps Out in Nike Book 1 “Son of Moss Point” PE – A Hometown Tribute
I was scrolling through my Twitter feed this morning, coffee in hand (spilled a bit on my keyboard, classic me), when I spotted something that made me stop mid-sip. Devin Booker, Phoenix Suns superstar and one of the smoothest shooters in the game, was rocking a pair of sneakers that immediately caught my eye.
Let me tell ya, after covering sneaker culture for over a decade, it takes something special to make me do a double-take these days. But Book’s newest PE (Player Edition, for those new to sneaker lingo) – the Nike Book 1 “Son of Moss Point” – did exactly that.
A Small Town Boy Makes Good
I’ve always had a soft spot for athletes who don’t forget where they came from. There’s something genuinely heartwarming about seeing a superstar pay homage to their roots, especially when those roots run through a small town like Moss Point, Mississippi.
Back in 2015, I actually had the chance to visit Moss Point while working on a piece about up-and-coming basketball talent in the South. It’s the kind of town where everybody knows everybody, where Friday night games are community events, and where Devin Booker first made a name for himself before taking his talents to Kentucky and then the NBA.
Breaking Down the Kicks
From what I can tell, these PEs are a special edition of the upcoming Nike Book 1 “Moss Point” retail release that’s scheduled to drop in Summer 2025 (yep, that’s not a typo – we’re talking nearly a year away). While us regular folks will have to wait for the general release version, Booker’s getting to rock his personalized “Son of Moss Point” edition right now. Some guys have all the luck!
The colorway is gorgeous – a subtle mix of Barely Grey, Metallic Silver, Moon Particle, and Pale Ivory. It’s not shouting for attention like some signature shoes do, but rather commanding it with quiet confidence. Kinda like Book’s game, when you think about it.
What I love most are the personal touches. The heel tabs feature “Yes Ma’am” and “No Sir” – a nod to Southern manners and respect that Booker has talked about being instilled in him growing up. It’s those little details that tell a story beyond just being another basketball shoe.
Southern Roots, Global Stage
I remember watching Booker when he was still at Moss Point High, dropping ridiculous numbers and looking like a man among boys. There was this one highlight video that made the rounds where he scored something like 40 points in a half. I showed it to my son, who was just getting into basketball at the time, and he couldn’t believe what he was seeing.
“Dad, is he gonna be in the NBA?” he asked.
“If he keeps playing like that, no doubt about it,” I told him.
And here we are years later, with Booker not just in the NBA but as one of its brightest stars, with his very own signature shoe line. There’s something poetic about that full-circle journey.
The Waiting Game
For those of us who want to get our hands on something similar, we’ll have to be patient for the retail “Moss Point” version. At $140, they’re actually reasonably priced by today’s signature shoe standards. I still remember when paying over $100 for basketball shoes seemed outrageous – now that barely gets you in the door!
Will I be trying to grab a pair when they drop next summer? You bet. I’ve got a spot on my shelf already cleared out. My wife rolled her eyes when I told her this – “Another pair of sneakers you’ll be too precious about to actually wear outside?” She knows me too well.
More Than Just Sneakers
What makes this story cool isn’t just about some new shoes. It’s about remembering where you came from. When I started this blog from my tiny apartment with spotty internet and a busted laptop, I never imagined I’d be writing about sneakers and sports for over a decade.
And that’s what I think resonates with so many of us about Booker’s story and these shoes. They represent something bigger – the journey from small beginnings to big stages, while keeping those early days close to your heart.
Whether you’re a sneakerhead, a basketball fan, or just someone who appreciates a good story, there’s something to connect with here. That’s the magic of sports culture at its best.
I’ll update this post with more details and better pictures when I can get my hands on them. Until then, I’ll be over here counting down the days until summer 2025, and wondering if my sneaker budget can handle another hit. (Spoiler alert: according to my wife, it can’t… but we’ll see about that!)
