Nike Air Max Plus Golf “Player’s Championship” Coming Soon

Nike’s Goat-Inspired Golf Kicks Are Coming (And I’m Way Too Excited About It)

Let me tell you a little secret. I’ve been sitting on this news for weeks, practically bursting at the seams to share it with you all. My golf buddy Tom (who has connections at Nike) slipped me some info that had me immediately canceling my dinner plans so I could rush home and start writing this post.

Y’all, Nike is dropping what might be the quirkiest, coolest golf shoe I’ve seen in my 15+ years of covering footwear. And trust me, I’ve seen some doozies.

The Players Championship Gets Its Own Sneaker (With Goat Hair!)

So here’s the scoop. Come March 2025, Nike is releasing a Players Championship-themed Air Max Plus Golf shoe that pays tribute to TPC Sawgrass. Yeah, that TPC Sawgrass—home of one of golf’s most prestigious tournaments and that infamous island green that’s swallowed more golf balls than I’ve had hot dinners.

I still remember watching Tiger’s “Better Than Most” putt there in 2001. I was sprawled on my parents’ couch, spilling Cheetos everywhere when he sank it. Good times.

But back to these shoes—they’re predominantly cream colored (Nike calls it “coconut milk,” which sounds delicious), with these gorgeous golden accents that’ll definitely catch some eyes on the course.

The wildest part? There’s actual faux goat hair on the heel. Yes, you read that right. GOAT. HAIR.

Why goats, you ask? Well, here’s a fun bit of golf trivia I learned while researching this piece: TPC Sawgrass used to use actual goats to clear the rough areas of the course back in the day. How’s that for organic landscaping? I can just imagine those little guys chomping away at the grass while players tried to concentrate on their swings.

My Take on These Quirky Kicks

Last weekend, I spent four hours hunting for my favorite Titleist in various water hazards and woodlands at my local course. If I had these shoes, would I have played better? Probably not. Would I have looked awesome while shanking balls into the trees? Absolutely.

I gotta say, I’m loving the attention to detail here. The shoes include a special Players Championship-branded insole, which is a nice touch for the golf nerds among us (myself included). There’s also this clean white foam midsole with golden Air units that just screams luxury.

The clear rubber outsole has spikeless traction, which means you can wear them straight from the course to the clubhouse without that embarrassing click-clack sound that makes everyone turn and stare. Been there, done that, spilled my post-round beer because of it.

Let’s Talk Price Tag

Okay, here’s the part where some of you might wince a little. These beauties will retail for $205 in men’s sizing. I know, I know—that’s not cheap. That’s about the cost of four rounds at my local muni course or one round plus beer at a fancy place.

But honestly? For a limited edition Nike golf shoe that’s this unique, it’s pretty much in line with what you’d expect. Plus, think about how many conversations these will start! “Is that… goat hair on your shoes?” is definitely an icebreaker I’d enjoy using with my playing partners.

Will These Help Your Game?

Let’s be real. No shoe is going to fix my slice or help me read those tricky downhill putts that I always leave short. But there’s something to be said for feeling good about your gear when you step onto the first tee.

My high school golf coach used to say, “Look good, feel good, play good.” He was wrong about a lot of things (like telling me I had potential), but I think he was onto something there.

Final Thoughts

March 2025 seems like forever away, but I’ve already set a calendar reminder to try and snag these. Limited edition Nike releases have a habit of selling out faster than free beer at a golf tournament, so I’m not taking any chances.

Whether you’re a serious golfer, a sneakerhead, or just someone who appreciates weird and wonderful footwear innovations, these Air Max Plus Golf shoes are worth keeping an eye out for.

Anyone else planning to try and grab these when they drop? Or am I the only one nerdy enough to get excited about goat-hair golf shoes? Let me know in the comments!

Until next time, may your drives be straight and your putts be true. And if not, at least your shoes can be awesome.
